Pros: Rugged construction, falling water, effective filter
Cons: Pump difficult to remove for cleaning, somewhat noisy

The Drinkwell fountain is the first water fountain designed for pets. Although it is constructed well, I think the design is somewhat outdated. The Drinkwell uses an air-cooled pump, so pump noise is heard. The color is kind of a faux blue marble, which I didn't think was particularly attractive. Due to the free-falling water flow, you do hear the sound of falling water. Some people like that, some don't. Although the bowl and housing is easy to take apart for cleaning, the pump itself is quite difficult to remove and replace, and it needs to be cleaned also. The power is 115 volts AC directly to the fountain through a rather thin AC cord, which is vulnerable to cat chew-through. I recommend cat-proofing the power cord. The filter used is of a better design and more effective than the competition.

Pros: Fresh Water. Great if it induces cat to drink more.
Cons: Noise. Some cats don't like

I like it and like the concept. Marli doesn't like it and doesn't use it. I'm still glad I purchased it and gave it a try. Maybe Mandi will like it when she arrives next month.
