It’s important for a cat’s urinary health to drink plenty of water. A cat is sensitive to the taste of water, and fresh running water is more tasty to a cat than stale, perhaps dirty water in a dish. That’s why so many cats like to drink from faucets. I have two Petmate Fresh Flow fountains at opposite ends of my house, which both my cats and I like very much. Some things I like about the Fresh Flow: it has a footprint of about 9 x 11, so can be placed on a pet tray. It has a 50 ounce capacity, which needs refilling only once a day. It has a detachable reservoir, which can be brought to the tap for refilling. The pump motor is 12 volts and the transformer is plugged into the outlet, so even if the cats should chew the cord, they are unlikely to get hurt. The water discharged by the pump runs down a ramp; there is no free-fall, so there is no “falling water” noise. And the pump is submerged, so it is very quiet. One weakness is the filter--it is not terribly effective. All in all, we are satisfied with our Fresh Flow fountains.
